This is a selection of some pieces where I really dig the urban environments in the backgrounds. My objective is to find photos I’ve shot that I can turn into backdrop artwork like this.
As I’m reviewing my own photos from this perspective I realize that not many of them will work for this project, because I’ve been shooting my cityscapes as stand-alone photographs. I need to start thinking of them as backdrops for portraits instead, and consider these basics when selecting and shooting them:
- The detail of the image needs to surround the subject. Horizon lines should be very low or non-existent.
- Think about the subject placement when you’re considering a composition; you should be able to visualize where the subject lives in the environment.
