SHOOT GUIDELINES

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR PORTRAIT SHOOTS

  • CANDID EDITORIAL-STYLE POSES!
    • Create a situation that tells a story; I want to feel like something is happening.
    • Default to having the subject NOT looking at the camera, except when specifically requested.
    • Poses should be natural and candid OR intentionally dramatic and artistic.
  • Slow down and pay attention to the details.
  • Watch carefully for unwanted shadows on the subject’s face.
  • Watch and experiment with the composition of the face in relation to the lens.
  • Spend quality time with each setup.
  • Pay close attention to each composition, keep it clean and minimal.
  • Carefully consider the pose that the model settles into.
